What is Document Flow?
A Document Flow is a sequence of steps that define how documents are generated, processed, and distributed in Docentric CE. When you run a Document Flow, you execute a configured workflow that guides you through template selection, document generation settings, and delivery options to generate and send your business documents.
How Document Flow works
Every Document Flow is associated with a Document Setup, which contains the Document Templates, Data Models, and configurations needed for document generation. When you select a record in your Dynamics 365 or Power Platform app and run a Document Flow, you follow a structured wizard that helps you:
- Select templates – Choose which document template to use for generation
- Configure generation settings – Specify the output format and file name
- Choose delivery destination – Decide where the document should go (download, email, or note)
- Review and execute – Verify your selections and run the document generation process
When to use Document Flow
You run a Document Flow when you need to generate business documents from your Dynamics 365 or Power Platform apps. Common scenarios include:
- Sales professionals generating quotes and invoices for customers
- Field service managers creating work orders and service reports
- Contract administrators producing agreements and NDAs
Any user with a Docentric CE security role assigned can run a Document Flow for an entity that has a Document setup configured.
