Welcome to Docentric Template Designer
Docentric Template Designer is a Microsoft Word add-in that turns ordinary Word documents into powerful, data-driven document templates for Docentric CE. You design static content with the familiar Word tools, while using tagging elements to include dynamic values in a template.
Document templates are standard Microsoft Word documents that serve as the blueprint for generated documents. They contain static content (layout, text, images) combined with Tagging Elements, as placeholders, that Docentric CE replaces with real data from your Dataverse environment during document generation. Because templates are standard Office files, you can use all Word capabilities - formatting, styles, images, paragraphs, tables, fonts and colors - while the add-in handles Tagging Elements.
You can create and use Word-based Document Templates to generate documents. Word-based templates are used for most scenarios, for example, when you need to generate quotes in PDF or Word (.docx) format.
Tagging Elements are markers you place in your document to identify content that should be populated at generation time. When a document is generated, Docentric CE merges the template with data from your Dataverse environment and replaces these Tagging Elements with real values - producing the final business documents that can then be processed and distributed.
